We liiiive for your tutorial posts! Can you please tell us how your career started?
Thank you! I started filming videos on Youtube back in 2014, mainly tutorials and hauls. At the time I was working in a call centre so I would film myself getting ready for work and I really loved engaging with people in the comments who were just as passionate about makeup as I was, because no-one that I knew in real life was into talking about or constantly buying new makeup the way I was. So it started as a hobby and a outlet for me to make online friends with a passion for makeup.
What has been your best career highlights so far?
So far the best part has been the opportunity to work with a brand to create my own eye shadow palettes from scratch, from choosing the colours, the finishes, the theme, the packaging, the design, seeing the whole process of creating a product and being able to make it exactly how I envisioned it has been amazing!
Which beauty products can you not live without?
Eyebrow products is a necessity for me because unfortunately I wasn’t blessed with full brows ha! Foundation is also a must to give me a even complexion, and finally a lip balm is a must have to keep my lips hydrated, I apply a lip balm more than 5 times a day haha I love hydrated lips.
What is an average day like for you?
I wake up at 7:30am everyday, get the kids fed and ready for school, (I have 6 year old twins) once I’ve dropped them to school my work day can begin, I start by writing a to do list so I have my day planned out and my thoughts in order, I then film whatever content needs to be filmed for that day, most days the minimum is 2 videos but on very productive days I can do 4/5 videos, a mix of Instagram and Youtube. I then begin to edit the content I wish to post that day. At 3pm I pick up my kids from school and then I am in mummy mode for the rest of the evening, homework, cleaning, cooking, playing games, watching movies whatever the kids wish to do. Once they’ve gone to bed sometimes I continue editing videos, and finally I post my Instagram video content around 8-9pm and then I call it a day.
What’s your best piece of advice for someone looking to take the first step in a new business or career path?
Consistency is key! Throw yourself into it don’t just dip your toe into it. For example, if you have a full time job but want social media to become your new career you need to dedicate as much time as possible into making that dream a reality, film multiple videos or take multiple pictures on your day off/weekends, enough to keep posting throughout the week, no-one wants to follow someone that is inactive, they want new content to watch everyday if not every other day. Also nothing happens over night so if you’re not seeing the results you want instantly, keep going! Dedication, consistency and passion combined with great content will pay off in the end.
Do you have any tips for balancing such a busy schedule?
I would say don’t overwhelm yourself, writing a to do list everyday and ticking it off as you go through the day gives you a sense of accomplishment, putting your mind at ease knowing things are getting done. Also don’t overbook yourself, don’t be afraid to say no sometimes if you know you have way too much going on, things can be rescheduled.
What do you do in your down time? (if you have any!)
Ha! Whats that? Only joking! I do try to take the weekends off, or do the bare minimum on weekends like only edit 1 video in the morning so its ready to post in the evening. I do love spending time with my family, we do BBQs in my garden, family dinners at my nans house, take the kids to the cinema, but when I’m alone and decide to take a random day off from work I do enjoy relaxing and watching a good movie, or occasionally a little retail therapy, treating yourself is important.
Can you tell us your best beauty tips?
If you have combo/oily skin like I do, taking a damp sponge and pressing a powder into your oily areas before foundation helps keep the oils under control, it’s a step I do if I know I’m going to have a really long day and need my makeup to last 12+hrs.
Also make sure you are hydrating oily skin as much as possible, people tend to think because their skin is oily they don’t need moisturizers or night time facial oils, when it’s actually the opposite, if you don’t moisturize, your skin will over compensate for the lack of moisture and produce even more oil! So find a lightweight oil free moisturizer that will hydrate your face but not feel heavy or greasy and use it daily!
What do you feel are the benefits of 100% natural products? Do you use any in your makeup routine?
This is something that I am new to because for a while I wasn’t aware that some ingredients in products are bad for you, I use to think like why would they sell something that is harmful to me? But its important to be informed on your purchases. Natural products are of course better because they aren’t harmful and in fact can help heal certain damages, I do love natural skincare products the most because when something is being absorbed into the skin you want it to be as gentle and natural as it can be!
What is next for you?
Honestly I’m such a go with the flow type of person, I take each day as it comes, I don’t have a 5 year plan or anything like that never have ha! I would like to continue posting and growing on all my platforms, I would like to travel a bit more but one of my main life goals was to create my own product so now that I’ve had to opportunity to do that twice anything else is a bonus really!
