Victoria Bond

Makeup Artist

Takes us through her coastal Stella Magazine editorial!

Bringing you beautiful looks for titles like British Vogue and Elle, Victoria Bond is a master with a makeup kit! We couldn’t wait to chat to her about this gorge coastal Stella Magazine shoot and hear all about our MUA of the month!

Can you tell us about this shoot?
The look I created was inspired by the location Ibiza. Sophie the stylist wanted a natural look but with a bit of something. I really like using earthy tones, layering products and using a mix of cream and powder products. Isabelle the model also had a tan so I worked around her natural glow.

What products did you use to create the look?
I like to keep base minimal I don’t think heavey skin is very cool. It’s also not great in the heat! I always prep the skin quite intensely. First I apply an Estée Lauder cleansing moisture mask. Then massage in some Chanel huile De Jasmin, decleor eyecream and Sisley global anti age moisturiser. Mac brown sugar Lip scrub then of course Dr Lip nipple balm. I sculpt the face with a Burberry beauty contour pen in medium then apply a thin layer of Mac face and body to even out the skin and create a nice texture. I conceal under the eye with Burberry sheer concealer (no3 is a peach shade and knocks out dark circles!) I then buff in a Chanel pro longwear concealer in no.3 to finish and correct. Around the nose and any other blemishes I used Laura Mercier camouflage concealer. Eyes- I curled the lashes. Then I used a mac cream colour base in sepia. I then used the Chanel quad no.268 mixing the three brown colours to create a bit of depth to the eye. I love this pallet it’s very versatile and flattering. On Isabelle’s cheeks I used Les Beige Healthy glow sheer colour sticks in 20 and 24. I mixed them together to create a natural tanned look with a stibble brush. Lips just DR Lipp. No powder I try to keep this to a minimum as I think it can kill a look. Brows brushed up and filled with a Chanel eyebrow pencil and set with Chanel brow gel in clear.

"Dr.Lipp is effective! They actually treat the lips, take dryness away but look great as a lipgloss."

Any tips for anyone at home wanting to recreate a similar look?
Use small amounts of product, layer it and blend. Keep adding until you get the right shape and texture. If you put too much on just blend out with a soft rounded brush like a Mac 224. Make sure you prep the skin properly this look is a about sheer sun kissed skin. If you are pale maybe add a little fake tan the night before.

What was the vibe like on set?
It was good vibes all day. We all got on really well and everything just worked. In fact it was one of my all time favourite trips

What would you say your signature beauty look is?
I probably have two amazing skin for the no makeup makeup look and a FRENCH red lip with minimal skin.

Do you have any career highlights so far?
Working with Chanel has been a dream come true for me. I have worked with amazing VIP’s like Poppy Delevingne and Eleanor Tomlinson, appeared in a beauty video and headed up a Presentation with the royal ballet for Chanel Fine Jewellery. I have also been fortunate to work for Burberry getting VIP’s like Orlando Bloom and Noomi Rapace ready for the shows. Shoot wise I shot Phoebe Waller-Bridge for the New Yorker with Richard Burbridge. I have also been lucky to work on the James Bond Premier and Junket with talented actor Andrew Scott.

What is an average day in the life like for you?
I’m always in a rush! I’m a Mum as well as I Makeup Artist and I live in the countryside! I get up early and get breakfast ready for my Son and I. If I’m working my Husband then takes over. I get the train into Marylebone and then from there I go to the location or studio. I like to be early so I can get set up and prepared. I will have researched the model or talent the night before. So I have some ideas about what look I’m going to create. No day is the same for me I could be working on an editorial, red carpet, beauty, Grooming or commercial work. I love my job and feel inspired everyday to create something new and fresh. I’m always first to arrive but first to leave as I want to get home to my family. As I commute it can sometimes be late.

What do you do in your downtime? In my down time I like to spend lots of time with my family on long country walks, running with my dog, watching my Son play football, Pilates to keep my back in good order and lunching with friends.

What is the best piece of beauty advice you ever received and what is the best piece you could give?
Drink water and stay out of the sun and moisturise! All of the above advice plus when Making yourself up just go for one statement ie a lip or an eye not both. Don’t over pluck eyebrows and don’t do that weird over filled square brow!
