We can’t get enough of her gorge looks!
Gabriella Floyd is our makeup artist for this month’s edition of Behind The Look and we’re discussing this gorgeous series of images she created for an editorial shoot with model Emily Bador and photographer Lily Brown. Taking place in a beautiful, bright studio down in Brighton, Gabriella was tasked with one of her most requested looks – fresh, glowing skin; something she has certainly achieved. We’re in total envy of Emily’s healthy glow! The beautiful weather on the day of the shoot meant that Gabriella could play with the light bouncing off Emily’s complexion, but needed to ensure the dewy and glossy skin did not come across as oily or sweaty in the final photographs! Gabriella, we know the struggle.
The look starts with great skincare, Gabriella tells us, with REN’s Rosa Centifolia Cleansing Water, an eye and face cream from Murad’s Ultimate Moisture collection and REN’s Perfect Canvas. Next, Gabriella used Charlotte Tilbury’s Light Wonder Foundation for all-over radiance (applied lightly, to keep Emily’s freckles showing through), Urban Decay’s concealer for under the eyes, Laura Mercier’s J’adore le Soleil bronzer and some blusher to give a natural flush to the skin.
It's hands down the best lip balm I've ever used - and it's cruelty-free! I love that its multipurpose use and I mix it up to use as a glossy highlight, or for a glossy eye. It's also great for mixing with pigments.
3INA Peach Eye gloss and Eyeko mascara were used in the eyes, with Glossier Boy Brow through the brows and BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector to highlight. On the lips was our hero, Dr.Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Dry Skin, Luscious Lips & Glossy Bits! P.S, you can buy it here.
As well as creating glowing skin and beautiful feature eyes (we’re obsessed with these iridescent eye looks), Gabriella is known for being a cruelty-free makeup artist. Her decision to go cruelty-free stemmed from her choice to be vegetarian, then vegan, as well as her research into cosmetic animal testing.
“I think it’s abhorrent that so many big cosmetic names like MAC, Estee Lauder, NARS, Bobbi Brown, L’Oreal, and Rimmel allow their products to be tested on animals in countries like China, for their own greed to make a profit,” she tells us. We’re with you on that, Gabriella! Following her decision, Gabriella sold her makeup from brands that had tested on animals, donating 10% of the sales to an animal charity and the rest to replace the items with cruelty-free brands.
As a cruelty-free brand ourselves, we’re obviously thrilled to hear this! If you want to take more ethical steps when it comes to beauty, Gabriella recommends crueltyfreekitty.com.
With such sage advice from the make-up artist, we couldn’t help but delve a bit more. For her kit essentials, Gabriella recommends Dr.Lipp (woohoo!), a brow gel and concealer and for beauty advice; less is more. “Really master great skin,” she reveals. “Learning details like a red lip or a good eyeliner come with practice and time, but skin is super important… ‘you f*** up the base, you f*** up the face!’”
Gabriella, that’s some of the best advice we ever did receive! Thank you for taking part!
