Dr.Lipp talks to international make-up artist Erin Maie about all things beauty, makeup essentials and more!

Can you tell us about the chosen look? What was the inspiration for it?
This was such a fun shoot! I got to work alongside my friend and colleague @Kingamarkovic doing a model each. Kinga brought along a bunch of crafts and in it she had ordered some of these tiny dots that came in all sorts of fun colour combinations, I think they are usually used for nail art! Between us we had fun creating complementary looks for each model and this one came about as an idea between the two of us.

What products did you use to create the look?
To achieve this lip I used a little bit of clear balm first (Dr.Lipp would work a treat here!) as you need something for the dots to grab onto.. you could do this anywhere on the face using a really small amount of Dr.Lipp pressed onto the area. Then I just dipped my finger into the pot-of-dots and pat directly onto the lip. Followed with loads of clear lip-gloss. The lip-gloss moved them around a little so I did have to add a few more here and there to get the coverage right!

Any tips for anyone at home wanting to recreate a similar look?
You can buy the little glitter dots on ebay really cheap! Just look up confetti glitter nail art. I mean, its not going to be a long-wearing practical look….but really fun for photos!

What would you say your signature beauty look is?
I would say my signature beauty look is beautifully fresh skin, with a focus on one feature. Maybe a fun lip like this one, or an amazing fluffy brow. Loads of individual lashes or a blended out smokey eye. Mainly I love creating a base that doesn’t feel like you are wearing makeup, I still like to be able to see natural skin coming through.

I love that Dr.Lipp can be used for so many different purposes, and not only that- but it works. The Original nNpple Balm is all I'll ever need for my lips.

Here at Dr.Lipp, we make multi-use skincare solutions to keep life simple and reduce our carbon footprint – do you think it’s important to streamline your beauty kit?
I am always trying to streamline my kit! I LOVE multi-use product, using the same thing on cheeks/lips and eyes can look really fresh and pretty. I have to carry a certain amount with me so I am prepared for anything, this means I need to be strict about what I have- and make sure it really works hard for me. If it can do more things than one, even better.

What would you be doing if you were not a makeup artist?
Before I started makeup, I was working full-time as a Registered Nurse. Over time, I’ve been doing more makeup and less Nursing. Particularly in the past couple of years I have been working casually as a Nurse to allow more time for makeup jobs. This year would have been my first working full-time as a makeup artist however COVID had other plans. Needless to say, Nursing turns out to be a great back-up job in times of need!

What items should everyone have in their kit?
Good skincare, Eyelash curler, brow pen and a lip balm.

Who is your dream client?
Ooh tough one! I don’t think I could be specific. I love beauty shoots. A dream client for me is someone with a clear idea of what they want, and they have chosen me because my style aligns with theirs. I love it when there is a story to be told within a shoot and it all comes together with styling/hair/set/photographer and makeup.

Do you have any career highlights so far?
This is going to sound super lame…but my career highlights have all been around meeting other people in the industry, working together to create something and becoming really good friends along the way!

What is a day in the life like for you?
Oh man, it depends on the day! I have a 4 year old son (Ari), We’re renovating our house and I’m juggling Nursing and Makeup, so each day is very different. I go from adventures with Ari, working at the hospital to an e-commerce shoot and makeup for a wedding all in one week. Throw in gym, dancing and catching up with friends and family and my life is full!

What is the best piece of beauty advice you ever received and what is the best piece you could give?
I loved getting the advice to not take makeup too seriously. It washes off, if you don’t like it you can change it. I think if you can embrace this and let go of some of the perfectionism then you can really enjoy the process and be more creative. My advice? Skincare is the key. To everything. Hahah, no but it really does make all the difference! If you don’t like how your foundation is wearing, or your lipstick doesn’t last or the concealer under your eyes doesn’t sit right. Its most likely fixable with skin-care, not necessarily new makeup.

What are your favourite uses for Dr.Lipp?
Lip balm! But also any areas where there is a bit of dry build-up (sometimes around the nose). I’ve used it as a cheek balm to create a fresh-faced glow and on eyelids if you want a little something without the effort
