We chat to influencer entrepreneur and designer Jasmine Iqbal about all things fashion, beauty and more! We just looove her!
We absolutely looove everything your social feed! Can you tell us a bit about how you started your career?
My husband and I were heading to Thailand, we’re going back a few years now. We decided to invest in a Sony Camera just before the holiday. We instantly became obsessed with the quality of the photos. We began posting on Instagram, and it was always for fun, who ever knew it would come this far! After giving up each and every evening between work and snapping away every weekend, I slowly found what I loved doing, getting creative with the camera, inspiring others, building strong relationships and working with talented brands.
What has been one of your best career highlights so far?
In 2019 myself and my husband launched our Womens modest wear and accessory business which linked in very well with my work. I’m super proud of how far where we’ve come and how we’ve built the brand ourselves from designing and creating the website to packing each and every order, it’s a time in our life we will never forget! I work with some amazing designers abroad where we stock their designs – it’s all a great experience!
We are also obsessed with Alila (your modest womenswear/accessories brand) – can you tell us how this got started – and inspiration behind the launch?
Aw thank you! I created content for many modest wear brands and one day I said to my husband, why are we not bringing something new to the table?! I love fashion and had a real good understanding of what my followers wanted and loved. My followers inspire me to keep bringing new designs to the brand and to keep expanding. My vision is for Alila to be a ‘one stop shop’ for many ladies across the world! My focus is on high quality products but I completely understand not everyone can always pay for high end brands so my aim is to bring the best of both worlds, quality and affordable for our customers!
I absolutely love how effortless the makeup is to apply and the quality of the product! I recently wore one of the lip tints when going out for a meal and it lasted all night, even after eating!
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Stop worrying! We all do it right, as I’ve gotten older I’ve learnt how to manage this a whole lot better! If I could go back in time I’d focus on myself from a younger age, I’d tell myself to look after my mind and to just be confident in myself!
What is an average day like for you?
Ahhh no two days seem to be the same at the moment! Some days I can be waking up at 6am travelling 4 hours to shoot locations and modelling for brands/makeup artists. Other days I’ll wake up and feed my cat, then my husband, then me (Yes in that order ha – It’s like having two children!) then I could be creating content for brands, marketing for Alila, working out mid day whilst trying to get some food down me! Its craziness!
What do you do in your down time? (if you have any!! Haha)
At the moment, down time doesn’t exist! Before Covid, my stress relief was the gym. 4 times a week I’d be there and that was my me-time. Working out completely de-stressed me and I felt good, inside and out! I’m really hoping to get back to it soon!
Which beauty products can you not live without?
My FW Beauty cleansing bar for sure – it keeps my skin fresh and helps prevent breakouts! Also, my hair products (I have a strict regime which consists of around 6 products) – I love to look after my hair!
Can you tell us your best beauty tips?
Don’t go a day without moisturising, ever! I get really dry skin so I need to moisturise twice a day. Beauty sleep is also a real thing, ha! Try to get into a good routine of early nights, it really does help with your skin and undereye bags! On top of that, I’m really good at drinking a lot of water a day and notice the difference if I have an off day.
What is next for you professionally and personally?
I feel like I have so much more to give, I’d love to work with some more of my favourite brands and also keep expanding my business. My husband and I are currently creating a studio in our home so that we have a dedicated space for our business and more space for me to create indoor content!
If you could encourage others to make one lifestyle change today, what would it be?
To look after your mind and live the life you want to live. I feel so lucky that I get to speak to so many ladies on my platform, however, far too often do I hear people stating they aren’t happy with their current situation and I feel it’s time for people to really live their life and not to just exist.
